See My Skills Back in Action After Christmas
The See My Skills team kicked off the new year in style, with our facilitator Ed delivering the Accelerator Programme to a fantastic group of 5th year students from Terence MacSwiney Community School. It was an inspiring start to the year and a pleasure to work with such an engaged group of young people.
The See My Skills Accelerator Programme provides students with a powerful, practical learning experience that helps them recognise their strengths and prepare for life beyond school. Designed especially for neurodivergent young people and those with physical disabilities, the programme focuses on building confidence, self-belief, and independence within a supportive and inclusive environment.
Throughout the programme, students took part in hands-on activities that developed essential career readiness and life skills, including communication, mindfulness, and job-seeking techniques. They explored future pathways through engagement with colleges and employers, mock interviews, and an insightful visit to the Dalata Group, where they got a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the Clayton and Maldron Hotels in Cork. During the visit, students met senior managers and learned about alternative routes into career development within the hospitality sector.
Students also spent a day in Brista Training with Declan Nestor, where they gained a barista skills certification. This practical qualification will support them in securing summer employment and building real-world work experience.
Alongside the Accelerator Programme, we also celebrated success on our Empower Programme. Our Programme Manager Noreen marked another achievement as an individual secured employment upon completing the programme. Through one-to-one coaching, CV workshops, and interview skills development, Noreen continues to support neurodivergent individuals at different stages of their journey with See My Skills.
It has been a positive and motivating start to the year, and we look forward to continuing our work supporting young people to see their skills, strengths, and potential.
