Volunteer Role: Guest Speaker – Accelerator Programme
Location: Off-campus venue (varies by programme), generally Cork/Munster region
Time Commitment: 30 minutes (including Q&A)
Date: Specific date provided in advance
Role Overview: As a Guest Speaker, you will inspire students with a range of disabilities, including physical, intellectual, learning, cognitive, emotional, or medical conditions by sharing your personal career journey, highlighting the various paths to success, and offering insights and advice to students navigating their own futures.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver a 15–20 minute informal talk based on your personal and professional experiences
Share challenges, setbacks, or learning moments that helped shape your journey
Engage students in a short Q&A session (10–15 minutes)
Support the message that success comes in many forms and timelines
Ideal Speaker Topics Include:
How school and/or college/apprenticeships shaped your path
Your current job and how you got there
Advice to your 16-year-old self
Overcoming challenges (including disability, if comfortable sharing)
Managing stress and maintaining work/life balance
Requirements:
Willingness to share openly and speak authentically
Comfortable engaging with young audiences in a relaxed setting
A passion for encouraging the next generation
